The 5 coat trends you should try this winter

The new coat trends we're seeing all over the homepages of our favorite retailers aren't depressing, although it's cold, damp, and gloomy outside. The newest coat styles have an influence, from Net-A-Porter to H&M.

There are some beautiful things to splurge on this season and some incredible trends to add to your closet, regardless of your price range.

LEATHER TRENCH

Trench coats made of leather or synthetic leather have been all over social media platforms as of late, and considering that everyone is getting ready for fashion month despite the chilly weather, this might be the beginning. A daring trend that can be styled like Neo from The Matrix, but for the fashionista who is up to date on the latest trends, it seems like a classic turned up to eleven. Even better, it is a trend that has been given enough air time before fashion city spotting that you do not have to break the bank to indulge - some upper high street and high street takes are available that genuinely are a "cake’s topping."

ANIMAL PRINT

Animal print is here for 2023, and it's back with a bang; it's a trend that you either love or hate, and it's made its way back around again to us; it's a trend that you may either love or despise. A couple of seasons ago, we saw it touched on briefly alongside the seventies pieces that were reinterpreted in denim, suede, and leather, but this season, we are going full length with it. Animal prints from head to toe on coats that Twiggy would buy in bulk and stuff her closet with faster than you can say "Pat Butcher." And if you're already a fan of leopard print, you could take it a step further and choose a faux fur item to wear this winter. That way, you can kill two fashion birds with one stone.

MIXED MATERIALS

This season, a trend would give Del Boy a run for his money, and it's all over the cool girls' Instagram feeds in the city. Winter is all about the coat, but we can all see this trend shifting flawlessly into the shorter jacket for spring and even the gilet style for those days when the sun emerges. Undoubtedly one of the most practical trends of the winter season, mixed material jackets bring together shearling and leather in stunning harmony, leaving you feeling warm and ultra-fashionable.

BOLD BRIGHTS

Many of our most coveted designers are reimagining our favorite coat styles, such as duster, trench, and cocoon, in vibrant hues, such as Viva Magenta, the official Pantone color for 2023. According to the designs of Christopher John Rogers, Sergio Hudson, and Stella McCartney, the trend of bold and vivid colors is back with a vengeance reminiscent of the 1980s. The simplicity of styling a hue (as opposed to a shape or material) makes it a popular trend to wear, so embrace something a little daring this season and interpret it as you see fit.

QUILTED

Given that they've been trending for some time, many of us likely have a quilted jacket from the previous season - what's new for 2023? We're talking about long, columnar coats in whatever color you feel, combined with elements of this winter's other fashion trends. Buy a quilted trench coat with a belted waist, a vibrant color from the trend of colorful tones, or perhaps a touch of leather if you're a true trendsetter.
